Our Internal Medicine Residents

I'm originally from Portland, OR, though have spent lots of time on both coasts. I initially came out to Massachusetts for undergrad at Amherst College, where I studied neuroscience, before taking a couple years off to do diabetes advocacy work in San Francisco. I subsequently moved back to the east coast for medical school at Brown and was absolutely thrilled to match at BI and to get to stay in this area.

In particular, what drew me to BIDMC was the intimacy of the program. There are undoubtedly a number of IM programs that offer a fantastic education, a breath of research opportunities, diverse clinical exposure, and outstanding mentorship, but, in my view, there are only a handful that do all of that while still looking out for its residents and thinking about who they are outside the walls of the hospital. Ultimately, I wanted to go to a place where I could learn to be a great doctor but also continue to grow in other facets of my life.

Speaking of life outside the hospital, I'm a bit of a sports fanatic and my free time is often spent on the tennis or basketball court or running along the Charles (with a mask, of course) or cheering for my hometown Portland Trailblazers. Indeed, as much as I love medicine, the best summer of my life was spent as a copy editor at ESPN, and I think it speaks very much to our culture at BIDMC that we bring together a group with such diverse backgrounds and interests.

I grew up in Concord, New Hampshire and went to Boston College, so I surprised everyone in my family when I chose to go to medical school at the University of Michigan (Go Blue!). I spent 9 years at the University of Michigan, getting my MD/PhD and exploring Ann Arbor and the rest of the Midwest. During my PhD, I studied the initiation and progression of pancreatic cancer using mouse models. Outside of medicine I enjoy playing with my son, going for walks with my dog, running, and watching football.

I was so happy to have the opportunity to come back to New England when I matched at BIDMC, and excited that my husband, a neurologist, also found a position in Boston. I am already enjoying receiving my training at an institution that values both clinical excellence, cutting-edge research, and medical education so highly. I’m looking forward to the years to come!

I am originally from Lima, Peru and came to the states with my family when I was nine years old. We settled northeast of Atlanta, Georgia where most of my dad's 13 siblings reside. Growing up, I first fell in love with cooking through my mother's daily Peruvian dinners – if medicine was out of the question, I can confidently say you would find me opening a restaurant or a bar.

I began college at Georgia Gwinnett College with no idea of what I wanted to study, and ultimately went on to earn my bachelor's degree in Biochemistry with a minor in Materials Science and Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. I met my wife during chemistry class at Georgia Tech. After college, I attended the Medical College of Georgia, where I researched how multimodal imaging, can help identify seizure onset zones in children with focal cortical dysplasia, a major cause of drug-resistant epilepsy. My wife graduated from PA school the same day I graduated from medical school.

My family and I were overcome with joy when I matched to the Internal Medicine program at BIDMC. I look forward to continuing my growth as a person and provider alongside some of the kindest and most talented physicians I have met.

I'm originally from Malawi, a small country in southern Africa with a very limited medical system. It's been amazing to get exposure to the state of health care in other developing countries during my residency. As a member of the Global Health track, I had the opportunity to go to Chiapas, Mexico, where I learned the Partners in Health approach to global health. Since, then I've also rotated through a BIDMC-affiliated hospital in Botswana.

I chose BIDMC because of the program's culture and the fact that you can learn from the very best in the world. The combination of high standards and a supportive environment makes this a special place. It's very noticeable that people go out of their way to help each other. The environment is very collaborative, even when you're working with world-class experts.

I grew up between France and the US, moving every few years, before deciding to venture south for college and attending Wake Forest University. I've been fortunate to travel to 27 countries and hope to see many more – I once skied through three countries (France, Italy, and Switzerland) on the same day!

After graduating from Wake Forest, I moved to Boston for the first time and spent a year with AmeriCorps, working with the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program and leading a foot care clinic at a local shelter. This experience opened my eyes to the incredible opportunities that exist in Boston and why it is such a privilege to practice medicine here.

I attended medical school at Drexel University in Philadelphia, where I focused on serving the city's underserved population. I led existing Health Outreach Project clinics and opened two new sites, in addition to launching a number of health education programs within existing clinics. As I progressed through medical school, I became more aware of the organizational gaps between physicians and healthcare administrators and decided to pursue an MBA. When I matched for residency five years later, I couldn't have been more excited to return to Boston and begin my training at BIDMC.
