Hematopathology

The Department offers a one-year fellowship in Hematopathology. Candidates may continue their fellowships beyond one year through sponsored research. The fellowship is approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, and fellows are eligible to take the American Board of Pathology subspecialty examination in hematology. The fellowship emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis of diseases of the lymphoid and hematopoietic systems. Cases are worked up routinely using morphology, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, cytogenetics and molecular diagnostic assays as needed. In addition there are rotations exclusively dedicated to cancer cytogenetics, molecular diagnostics, and pediatric hematology. Fellows participate daily in laboratory hematology, including coagulation, automated hematology and special hematology. Fellows steer interdisciplinary conferences and teach pathology residents, medical students, and clinical fellows. Fellows are invited to participate in ongoing basic or translational research programs in Hematopathology.

Requirements

Completion of residency training in AP, CP or AP/CP. Facilities: Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center is a large referral center with active bone marrow and solid organ transplantation programs. The center is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratory facilities.
