About Our Breast Imaging Research Program

High-quality research is a top priority for BIDMC’s Harvard-affiliated Breast Imaging research program. Our academic group has created a formal research program to expand the scope and reach of the work. Program goals include focusing physicians in their short- and long-term research pursuits, expanding our research staff, and improving the visibility of our research group in local and larger communities through collaboration, social media, and committee participation.

Our primary work has evolved to focus on new technologies, value-based health care, and education. In 2019, we published six scientific papers and six educational reviews on these topics. We presented at multiple national conferences, including one scientific and six educational presentations at RSNA 2019, three scientific, and one educational presentation at ARRS 2019, one scientific presentation at the ACS Quality and Safety Conference, and one scientific presentation at the College of American Pathologists. At RSNA, our group was awarded Magna Cum Laude for two exhibits, one certificate of merit, and one was identified for Radiographics. At ARRS, our group received a Cum Laude Award, and a certificate of merit.

To promote visibility and collaboration within the BIDMC network, we partnered with members of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (VIR), breast pathology, breast surgery, and primary care on projects. We have engaged trainees at multiple levels from first-year through fellowship. We have also partnered with members outside our institution in areas of transgender health, mentorship, and breast imaging fellowship education.
